Protecting our Bay

In celebration of World Environment Day, our employees recently conducted a site wide activity collecting litter from four locations. Teams were directed to illegal dumping hotspots in public and industrial areas surrounding the port, and transported loads of rubbish back to a skip for appropriate disposal.

Approximately 45 workers filled a 4.5 cubic metre skip in roughly 30 minutes donated by Corio Waste Management. Items collected included disposable cups, plastic bottles, clothing and glass in a bid to prevent it from falling into Corio Bay.

GeelongPort is committed to conducting business activities in a way that minimise adverse environmental impacts and delivers continual improvement in environmental performance.

It takes 100 years for plastic to degrade in the environment. More than 13 million tonnes of plastic falls into the ocean each year killing about 100,000 marine animals annually. To improve our environmental footprint, we have issued employees with reusable coffee cups, metal drink bottles and jute bags as part of our environmental program.
