GeelongPort Events Program

GeelongPort hosts a range of events throughout the year aimed at supporting our employees, customers and the local community.

Join the #BlueCarbonArmy with GeelongPort in 2023

Are you interested in coastal ecosystems and climate change research? GeelongPort will be hosting several Citizen Science Days in 2023 in partnership with Blue Carbon Lab and Deakin University.

Your first opportunity to join us is Wednesday March 22.

On the day, #BlueCarbonArmy participants will join Deakin University scientists in a day of fieldwork in our local coastal wetlands around Corio Bay.

Corio Bay holds a wealth of blue carbon ecosystems (ie. saltmarshes, mangroves and seagrass meadows) that are helping Victorians mitigate and adapt to climate change. However, challenged with unprecedented degradation, coastal wetlands in Victoria have dramatically declined in the last decades.

With little connection to the coastal ecosystems on our doorstep, and minimal understanding of the role as nature-based solution for climate change, this program aims to address these issues locally, by immersing GeelongPort staff, customers, partners and community members into Corio Bay’s coastal ecosystems. Increased local understanding of the value of coastal ecosystems is critical to guarantee their protection and restoration within Corio Bay.
