GeelongPort

GeelongPort using 100% renewable energy from 1 December

Today, GeelongPort switched over to using renewable energy thanks to our partnership with Barwon Water and Barwon Health through the Barwon Renewable Energy Partnership (B-REP).

Through this partnership we have entered into a 10-year renewable Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) which will see renewable electricity produced at Mount Gellibrand windfarm near Birregurra, sent to the grid and allocated to GeelongPort, offsetting the energy used at our facilities.

This partnership enables us to purchase 100% renewable electricity with net zero emissions.

The annual electricity volume we have purchased through this plan will provide for 100% of GeelongPort’s operational needs.

We have also purchased 6 GWh per year to provide renewable energy for the new Spirit of Tasmania facility.

With climate change a critical issue for all Victorians, the Barwon Renewable Energy Partnership is a significant example of leadership in regional Victoria. It is the first PPA partnership of this type in Victoria which involves both public and private sector entities.

This PPA has allowed us to meet our long-term objective to draw all electricity from renewable sources ahead of the Horizon 2 FY22 – FY26 target in our Environment Strategy.

Our shift to 100% renewable energy, and our 2022 GRESB Sector Leader result, highlights that we are on the right track to achieve our aspiration to be Australia’s most sustainable port.

If you have any further questions about this partnership or our commitment to sustainability, please reach out to Corporate Affairs on 1800 979 717 or via communications@geelongport.com.au
