Seagull Paddock clean up

With Clean Up Australia Day taking place yesterday, GeelongPort last week held a clean-up of Seagull Paddock in North Geelong, in partnership with Corio Waste Management and the Friends of Cowies Creek.

More than 40 people from across the three organisations gathered for a one-hour clean up of the area bordering Cowies Creek, and the rubbish collected in the time filled a quarter of a skip.

Clean Up Australia Day, which originated in 1990, encourages Australians to get out in their community and collect litter to protect our environment and keep Australia clean. The event provides an opportunity to educate the community about environmental responsibility and the significance of recycling.

GeelongPort CEO Brett Winter is proud that GeelongPort participates in Clean Up Australia Day each year.

“We are steadfast in ensuring the health of the beautiful Corio Bay and the environment in and around GeelongPort, and we do everything in our power to maintain this in our day-to-day operations,” he said.

“Each year we gather hundreds of kilograms of rubbish and Seagull Paddock was clean and thriving by the time we were done last week.”

GeelongPort would like to commend the local community on the cleanliness of the park – this was the second year GeelongPort held a clean-up at Seagull Paddock and the area was much cleaner today than in 2023. A big thank you also goes to Corio Waste Management and the Friends of Cowies Creek for their involvement.

GeelongPort also worked with the City of Greater Geelong to encourage community participation across Greater Geelong for this year’s Clean Up Australia Day on Sunday 3 March.

City of Greater Geelong mayor Trent Sulivan agreed that every piece of rubbish collected was a step towards eliminating litter and conserving our environment.

“We encourage communities, schools, and businesses to help clean up Geelong on Clean Up Australia Day and every day.”
