Inspiring Others

Our very own Dr Lisa Mills, HSE Advisor recently attended Deakin University’s Engineering Work Experience Week to share her passion for the industry. Joining a panel of industry representatives, Lisa answered questions from Year 10 students representing several schools across the region.

The week-long engineering workshops focused on all fields including Environmental, Civil, Mechanical and Electrical. Students came from across the Geelong region keen to learn about the Engineering sector and employments paths for the future.

“Seeing so many students engaged in the activities was promising. Once a male dominated industry, it was interesting to see a shift, with more than 50% of the students being female,” Dr Mills said.

“It was wonderful to see so students contemplating a career in the sector,” she said.

Students were involved in hands on engineering activities including fluid dynamics, water treatment and even built a powered boat. Focusing on team work and communication they were able to get a taste of the industry in an educational environment.
