Celebrating 125 Years of Mission to Seafarers Geelong

Last week, GeelongPort had the privilege of celebrating a remarkable milestone with one of our longest standing community partners, Mission to Seafarers (MTS) Geelong, as they marked their 125th anniversary.

During this time, Mission to Seafarers Geelong has provided vital support to seafarers from around the world, offering practical assistance, a safe place to rest, and pastoral care to those who are far from home.

Adding to the significance of the day was a heartfelt celebration of Reverend Noah Park’s 35 years of service as Chaplain to Mission to Seafarers, 25 of those at MTS Geelong. Reverend Park’s unwavering dedication has not only made him the longest-serving Chaplain in Mission to Seafarers’ global history but has also profoundly impacted countless lives. His tireless work has created a welcoming community, offering seafarers compassion, guidance, and a listening ear.

The day’s festivities were filled with stories of lives touched by Reverend Park’s kindness and the Mission’s work. The celebration ended with the cutting of two huge cakes and an impromptu musical performance from a seafarer who is currently stationed in Geelong — an apt way to honour such a special occasion.

Ports are open 365 days of the year and seafarers often spend months away from their families. Each year, GeelongPort provides Mission to Seafarers with a gift for the seafarers that visit GeelongPort over Christmas.
