GeelongPort

GeelongPort worked closely with Spirit of Tasmania (operated by TT-Line) for more than two years to transform our Corio Quay South precinct into the new home of Spirit of Tasmania.

Our dedicated Project Team managed the construction of the new 12-hectare precinct, overseeing three extensive construction packages, including marine works, landside construction, and the passenger terminal building.

As well as a state-of-the-art passenger and freight terminal, the new precinct includes a vehicle marshalling area for 600 cars, a parking area for 150 semi-trailers, crew accommodation, a café and a children’s play area.

Construction of Spirit of Tasmania Quay is complete, and the first sailing into Geelong took place on 23 October, witnessed by more than 700 local people.

Delivering benefits to Greater Geelong, Victoria, and Spirit of Tasmania passengers

This project has enabled GeelongPort to provide a world-class gateway to some of Victoria’s best destinations. It has unlocked access to Geelong and beyond, including the Great Ocean Road, Bellarine Peninsula, coastal towns, Melbourne, and the Mornington Peninsula.

The project will increase tourism expenditure by $57.3M in Geelong, and $174.1M in Victoria by 2029-30.

It has also created new opportunities for hospitality, agribusiness, freight, and logistics industries in Victoria.

The precinct has four ticketing booths and a passenger marshalling area that accommodates up to 600 passenger vehicles, supporting a faster boarding system for passengers. The new terminal offers separate marshalling areas for passengers and freight, meaning boarding is also safer and more efficient.

The use of innovative maritime technology has increased efficiencies for Spirit of Tasmania’s freight customers and broader supply chain by reducing loading and discharge times.
