GeelongPort is proud to be taking to the water with Ports Victoria to deliver its Port of Geelong Education Program to Year 10 and 11 students from schools across Geelong.
The program gives local students a unique on-water tour of the Port of Geelong, with a focus on GeelongPort facilities and the important role that the port plays in keeping the region, state and nation moving.
The tour also provides an opportunity to educate the next generation about the diverse career opportunities that exist within the port and maritime industries, hopefully inspiring as many students as possible to explore careers in the sector.
Over the past two weeks, more than 300 students took part in the 2026 program on board a Port Phillip Ferry .
Ports Victoria has been running this program since 2006, with more than 12,000 students having taken part.
GeelongPort has been involved in the delivery of the program since 2023 and is thrilled to be supporting it in an official capacity .
“Giving young people the opportunity to see behind the scenes at our region’s most important logistics hub and experience the sheer scale of our facilities and operations is hopefully inspiring the next generation of industry professionals,” GeelongPort CEO Brett Winter said.
“We thank Ports Victoria for the opportunity to become involved in such an impactful program and we look forward to its continued evolution over the coming years.”
Ports Victoria Chief Strategy and Development Officer Jeff Bazelmans mirrored GeelongPort’s sentiment.
“Given the strategic and important role that the Port of Geelong plays in the local and Victorian economy, it’s important that our community – including local students – understand what a valuable asset we have on our doorstep,” he said.
“And very importantly, we want our young people to know that there are a myriad of jobs and career opportunities associated with Victoria’s ports and their associated industries.”
