AFL superstar and cycling fan Max Gawn will head to Geelong in early 2025, swapping his regular red-and-blue Melbourne footy guernsey for cycling Lycra.
The Demons premiership captain is set to participate in the GeelongPort Family Ride on January 31 as part of the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race event.
Gawn will ride with his sons George, 3, and Louis, 1, on a tandem bike among hundreds of other families.
“They’re quite at home when they’re on the bike, which is one of the key things I wanted to make sure early on … George is already thinking about winning” Gawn said.
“I think a healthy Australian cycling calendar is great for the sport … I’m really looking forward to it.”
In 2025, the course is increasing to 2km of safe, closed-off and flat circuit, and will now include the waterfront Ritchie Boulevard so families can enjoy more of the sun-drenched Geelong setting.
The increase in course length will see more kids, more parents and more smiles take the opportunity to create new cycling memories and support healthy habits.
Max is a massive fan of cycling – on road, off road and family rides; he is in! Whether he’s singing theme songs on the bike, pedalling along the bay with his eldest son George or cycling in Saudi, he loves being on two wheels.
We couldn’t imagine a more amazing ambassador to join the fun at our 2025 Family Ride.
